I’m delighted to have Erzabet Bishop visit today for an interview and two hot excerpts from her latest releases – one f/f and one m/f. Oh boy, are you in for a treat! 🙂
Welcome, Erzabet :).
How did you get started writing?
I have been writing since I was a kid off and on. Jumping into novel writing two YA novels under my real name was my first big project and I ended up getting frustrated and getting lost in the middle. Starting over and working on short stories has really helped to form my craft and I am enjoying it immensely.
Writing erotica really began to happen after reading 50 Shades. I wanted to see if I could do it. It turned out I could. Now I want to try a longer work.
What was the best piece of writing advice you received?
Never stop writing. I often check in on the Horror Tree website and just happened to come across a list of advice from Ray Bradbury. He suggested working on a short story a week because sooner or later, you would have to write a better story and would constantly improve.
What do you think makes good erotica and do you think it differs depending on whether you are writing m/f erotica or f/f erotica?
I think no matter what flavor of erotica you are working on, it’s about reaching the id of the reader. That basic feeling of desire that is the kernel of connecting with the story the writer is putting to paper. Lately, I have gravitated toward writing f/f stories. They feel more elegant somehow. I do, however still enjoy writing and reading m/f erotica.
Where do you get your ideas and your characters from?
I think about my stories and take little bits from everyday life. I work as a bookstore manager, so there are plenty of people to draw from.
Following on from that, where did you get the idea for Hooked, your story from Anything She wants, from?
That is actually a funny story. I used to work part time in a needlework store. I loved the fibers and the classes and the interaction with the ladies. I hope I put that across in the quirkiness of the characters. Well, I also enjoy looking on Ravelry (a website for knitters and crocheters) for kinky crochet ideas and thought it would be a ton of fun to create a story with a naughty crochet theme. Oh, and cupcakes. It’s true. I have a fixation.
What do you think makes a good sex scene?
That primal place that takes you, the reader, into the page. Whatever is happening has to make you one with the story, so you feel like you are the one experiencing what is happening to the main character. It’s all about escaping into the story.
You write both m/f and f/f erotica. Do you think you approach them differently when you write?
Yes. They come from different places in me. I am a straight, married woman but I have always loved the beauty of two women falling in love and the expression of that love. It is beautiful and I want to reflect that in my writing. F/f comes more naturally for some reason. It is more fluid and I melt into the story. With m/f I have to think about it more and make a conscious effort in stories that are more “normal” if you will. My neighbor is always asking me for sexy stories with middle aged regular folk. I did one for an anthology call recently and it was hot, but I had to really think about it.
Do you have a writing routine? Do you need absolute quiet to write or background music/noise?
My life is pretty much chaos. I work full time and have to fit writing in around my retail management schedule. That means every day is different and I can’t really make a routine.
Quiet. I am a music reviewer under my real name and tend to start analyzing things to death if I listen to music. The only exception is instrumentals if I am in a certain mood. Mostly, I need to have quiet.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and if so, how do you get over it?
Yes. For the past year I have pushed myself beyond rational limits to achieve publication under two names. When I am not at work, I am home working on a piece. For the last two weeks I have had kind of a dry spell and it sort of scared me. After going a year writing three shorts a week I kind of freaked when it didn’t come. I wanted to write one for Violet Blue’s new erotica antho, but as I sat there staring at the keys, my mind was just blank. Scary. Stress can do that. So can having absolutely no quiet to write.
Releasing the angst of not producing to be able to produce again, I have had to realize I am not super-woman. Today I pick up the pen again and am working on a new antho piece for another call. Part of my frustration I think is the stress of balancing life and work. When you are married and have a family, you have obligations there too. Did I mention I am a blogger too? Yes. Tours, reviews…full time job…writing…laundry…dog mom…wife…the works. Yes. Lately there has not been much time for writing and I am trying to be okay with that so I can go back in energized.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
A little of both. If I outline on a legal pad, I am good to go. The key is getting the bare bones down before I start with the short story. Then it flows. Working on the longer piece will be the same.
What do you like most about being a writer?
Letting my creativity flourish. I have dreamed of being a stay at home writer all of my life. This past year is a stride in that direction.
Out of all your books, do you think you could pick a favourite and why?
Oh wow. I really love “Hooked” from Anything She Wants for the naughty crochet angle. I can’t tell you how many hours I researched online for ideas on naughty projects to work on. I am at this present moment working on a crochet mask and corset hand towel. J
The other project dear to my heart is the EPS series from Naughty Nights. My first short release is Beltane Fires, and it is based on a re-occurring fantasy I have had for years. Witch goes into forest and her world is rocked by a Forest God. Very sexy. The second book in the series, Samhain Shadows will be out later this year.
What’s next for you?
I have several anthology calls in the works and am also in progress on a couple of larger novels. It will be a busy year, but that is the way I like it.
Thanks for having me on the blog today!
You’re welcome, Erazabet :). Now here are those hot excerpts I promised you, from Hooked and Beltane Fires :).
“Hooked” Excerpt from Anything She Wants:
“Did I miss it?” Carly rushed in, arms laden with a box of cupcakes.
“Yes. Again.” Mercy laughed and took the box from her hands. Setting it on the counter, she opened the lid and gasped. Each little cupcake had naughty little candy embellishments.
“You’ve outdone yourself.” Mercy grinned and picked up a vanilla frosted one with a tiny licorice flogger on top. The strands were thin and black, sprouting from a handle of red braided candy. “You know the way to a woman’s heart. Bondage and cake. I think I may love you.” She took a bite of the cupcake and groaned at the sugary sweetness.
“Do you mean it?” Carly asked, her voice suspiciously calm.
“What?” Mercy swallowed the last of the white cake and was about to put her frosting laden finger in her mouth when Carly grabbed her hand.
“I said, did you mean it?”
“Mean what?” Mercy stared at her, knowing exactly what Carly was asking, but afraid to answer.
“Okay, so we are going to be difficult about this I see.” Carly took Mercy’s frosting covered finger and placed it in her mouth. Her tongue swirled around it, licking the sweet frosting off, her accusing gaze never wavering from Mercy’s widened eyes.
Mercy pulled her finger free with a pop, staring at Carly—speechless.
Carly placed her lips on Mercy’s for a fluttering kiss and moved towards the door. “There. Was that so hard?” Carly flipped the sign to closed. “Mmm. Butter cream. My favorite. Probably shouldn’t have made those with vanilla frosting though. Doesn’t really fit the kinky theme, does it?”
“What are you doing?” Mercy started. A warm flutter of desire started in her belly and moved steadily downward. “It’s not even six thirty yet.”
“I know perfectly well what time it is. You really want someone to come barging in here?”
Carly clicked the lock and yanked the large curtains at the store front window closed. “There. Now, where was I?”
Mercy backed away. “What are you doing?”
“I’ve been waiting around for you to ask me out for two years, Mercy Devereux. Since you won’t take the lead, I will. I’ve seen how you’ve been eyeing my butt when you think I’m not looking. Every day you stare out of the window at the end of the day, afraid to come over and talk to me.” Carly snorted. “I’m tired of waiting for what I want and I want you.”
Mercy stared at her, eyes wide and mouth gaping. “I…”
“Uh huh. That’s what I’m talking about. Tell me you didn’t like it when I kissed you and I’ll walk out that door and never come back.”
Mercy stared, not knowing what to say. Could it be true?
Carly put her hands on her hips and stared her down. “I think you like to play at being a kinky little tease, but when a girl gets down to business, you run for the hills.”
“Is this running?” Mercy wrapped her arms around Carly and drew her in for a deep kiss. Her tongue pushed between Carly’s lips, prepared for an all out invasion.
Carly groaned into her mouth and ran her hands down Mercy’s back, rubbing tiny circles on her ass.
“God, I would love to spank the shit out of you for making me wait.”
“What?” Mercy laughed, pulling away slightly.
“Yes. I think I’m going to. You don’t know how crazy you’ve been making me with your tight jeans and your skin-tight little t-shirts. God, woman! Do you think I’m made of stone?” Carly moved in her direction with purpose.
“Oh no, you don’t!” Mercy squealed, running behind the classroom table.
“Oh, you’re going to beg me for it before I’m done.” Carly smiled, tossing her hair belligerently. She stopped and began to unbutton her shirt.
“Oh my god,” Mercy rasped, staring at the cleavage that was being revealed.
The flutter inside her turned into a heat wave and she had to hold onto the table to keep from falling over.
Carly threw her shirt at Mercy and she caught it, mid flight. “Good catch.”

Beltane Fires Excerpt:
“Good eve, little witch.” The man moved toward her, his shoulders wide and solid as molded bronze. He carried himself with a commanding air of self-importance and her inner core began to liquefy. Already molten from the ministrations of the nymphs, she was aching to feel his touch. Tall, handsome, with a beautifully proportioned body, he was completely naked. His hair was a mass of brown curls and a crown of antlers graced his brow. A forest lord coming to claim her on a wild Beltane night. Desire shivered through her, and Ceri felt her nipples pebble with lust.
“Good evening.” Ceri struggled to look him in the face when her eyes kept traveling down toward his now erect cock. His dark eyes were framed by a handsomely square face and his lips turned up with amusement as if he could read the inner turmoil of her mind.
“This a wild night to walk these woods alone, fair one.” He moved purposefully closer and his rigid member bobbled as he walked. Ceri felt her mouth go dry. Her eyes met his in startled surprise as his warm hand brushed her cheek and trailed down the edge of her left breast, cupping it in his palm. How had he gotten here so fast?
“You are mine.” Reflected light glimmered over his face with molten radiance as he stepped in and his lips claimed hers.
