Why not? There’s obviously a market for it, otherwise Ellora’s Cave wouldn’t have started their EC For Men range. When I saw they had, I decided I was going to give it a go. I hadn’t written for Ellora’s Cave at that point, and I really wanted to. So I set myself a challenge to send something to them and see what happened.
I had a long wait in their slush pile, but fortunately A Taste of London was accepted, by which point I’d already decided to turn the idea into a series. It was ideal for a series, and also ideal as something to write for men… two young men on their gap year before starting University. There’s going to be alcohol and sex, perfect! It took me some time to get into the headspace of guys that age with their focus on a woman’s looks, etc, and not wanting to get tied down, but once I did I had a lot of fun with it. Though it was a fine line between making Ryan and Kristian confident and making them into arseholes. They may like sex and be determined to enjoy themselves, but they still treat girls with respect and are nice guys.
So there’s no romance, none whatsoever in this series, it’s all about boys on tour having a good time on their European travels… and that’s the beauty of writing for men. I can write fun scenes, sexy scenes, and not have to worry about the emotional side of things. It’s kind of refreshing, actually.
